On December 23rd, Virginia (Virgie), my hairdresser of 30 years, died.  Any tribute from me, would not do her justice.  She was a remarkable woman.  Though we were not close friends outside the beauty parlor,  on many levels, we knew each other well.  I will miss her smile, her hugs and her kindness.  It has been an honor to know her.

GOODBYE VIRGIE

You liked precision
If there is choice in dying
You rejected the hazy living of prolonged illness
Maintaining neither life nor death
You stayed long enough though
For preparation - yours and ours
But we are not yet ready
To accept the shading of your essence
Grief is our resistance
To the biggest change of life
You are deeply grieved
Your eulogy was about your goodness
It was long
Because it was about loving
Now as you travel that road
Destined for us all
Life goes on
Or is it death that grows into itself?
Life and death simultaneously fused

  2. What a beautiful tribute. We walked the path of grief when my oldest daughter lost the love of her life last September. We have chosen to live his mantra. "life life forward."

  7. I'm so sorry for your loss, Myrna. It's interesting how people we would not think to call good friends outside a particular setting nevertheless can have a deep importance in our lives and, in that way, most certainly are great and spiritually close friends. I'm glad you had such a one in Virgie. And I think the last line in your tribute is a very keen observation that is probably brimming with truth.

  9. A beautiful, thoughtful goodbye. That kind of questioning and wondering leads eventually to acceptance. May your grief be eased through being expressed and shared here.
