November 4, 2018 It used to be a great novelty to get rain or snow in Southern New Mexico Nowadays, we have occasional below freezing weather, rain and snow are no longer unusual. |
My uncontrolled swinging moods
Like winds blow without prediction
Rains drown what has no thirst
Snow falls in torrential abuse
Ice caps dissolve into dirt
Sun's fire rages
Humans build then destroy
As innocents and guilty both
Claim to care
About this earth
Time evolves knowing
Love
Goodness
Hope
Possibility
But every positive has it's opposite
Everything changes
Because infinity contains transformation
Perhaps that's all
All is
(For Poets United, where we are prompted to write about climate change.)
Bless the Earth. Speak Up. Love her every day with joy. Do not despeair <3 VOTE!
ReplyDeleteSomeone suggested to me that climate change is the cocoon the earth is building to assist her transformation into a butterfly. It's an intriguing idea, meaning we might not know which is the positive or negative from any point of view but our own. Your poem brought this idea back to me. Very full of feeling!
ReplyDeleteThere is some hope in your closing lines. Transformation will happen with or without us. Yes, Cloudia is right - VOTE!
ReplyDeleteI am all too familiar with these thoughts. Some days I despair, but hope (while fragile) is strong and keeps emerging.
ReplyDeleteLuv the way you pondered this. That "perhaps" is quite plausable as well mesmerizing for non scientist, we l have to let here on this planet, every thought counts if we are to save here
ReplyDeleteMuchđź’–love
Perhaps you are right. "All is." I hear the echo of that word, as we go up in smoke.
ReplyDeleteMyrna, I feel the sadness, in your poem. As the province of Ontario is ruled by a Trump wannabe, Premier Doug Ford, who views the environment as another tool to generate short term economic gain, without thinking about the future needs of the province. Or the impact that climate change is having on the immediate needs of people and businesses, alike. Sadly, we're stuck with him, for the next 3 years and 5 months, before we vote him out of office. Just hope that the province can heal and not be totally damage beyond all repairs.
ReplyDeleteI feel the sadness with you but I think things can be turned around Especially our young people stand up, becoming vegetarian ( methane is a bad greenhouse gas and there are too many cows) My daughter her friends etc are changing are changing there lifestyle. I think the next generation is making the changes
ReplyDeleteSo, so sad. We'll have to suffer our own karma & the planet knows how to redeem itself to health, probably without us. Love that ray of hope in your closing lines.
ReplyDeleteYes, easy to claim to care but hard to do anything concrete. It has to begin in Washington, and other seats of govt. Recycling should not be an option and clean energy has to be mandatory. Period.
ReplyDeleteI know all about snow's torrential abuse. You capture the sad truth of climate change so vividly.
ReplyDeleteGradual evolution is one thing, but affecting the speed of it by abuse of Earth multifarious sytems and resources is crass foolishness; but this is what is happening right now! However profits are more important that survival! In a few years time someone will say we have got to fix this or else! Let's hope there's still time.
ReplyDeleteThought provoking, heartfelt and true. A poignant write Myrna.
ReplyDeleteI feel the sadness and despair in this poem, Myrna. We do what we can, hold our breath, and hope.
