When the ghosts hover waiting
The way we anticipate a baby's birth
Then rejoice at its exposure to earth
Only ghosts know how to celebrate
Life's slide through that tunnel of pain
Releasing us to...the other side
Where sheets cover our souls then fly
Somewhere none could imagine
At that moment we'll know
What only ghosts behold
About our fear while here:
We're not really afraid
of ghosts
But of that moment
When we become one
For Poets United.
Ah, indeed. The psychology behind ghosts and the fear thus generated and felt is nothing but our struggle with mortality.
ReplyDeleteI liked this bit: "Only ghosts know how to celebrate/Life's slide through that tunnel of pain".

Exactly! Who wants to become a ghost?
ReplyDeleteNo not the ghost perhaps... more that we don't really know I think.
ReplyDeleteAn intriguing (and no doubt true) poem.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is SO GOOD! That is exactly it! Wonderful, Myrna.
ReplyDeleteThis was like flipping a picture around to see a completely different image--the celebrating ghosts are captivating.
ReplyDeleteAn insightful and nicely rendered piece, Myrna. I think you've 'hit the nail on the head', here. An awesome - and wise - bit of writing.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Myrna, we are afraid of ghosts because we KNOW that we will eventually become one ourselves. In that lies the fear. A great poem for the end of Ocrober.
ReplyDeleteSo true, ghosts can be alluring, but I think all of us want to stay in human form for as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteI ain't scared... : )

Well if that is how it is I hope they say "It's OK, weve got a writers club up here".
ReplyDeleteLove that last verse.. the fear of the unknown..the moment of letting go! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI think it's natural to be afraid of ghosts for we know so little about them. Great write, Myrna ❤️
ReplyDeleteAh, a new take for Halloween. LOVE the conclusion here and now I're really rethinking ghosts.
ReplyDeleteYes we will!!!
ReplyDeleteOur fear of the other is inbuilt. Though the more we grow the more still we ponder
ReplyDelete"Only ghosts know how to celebrate
Life's slide through"
