Death in the time of Corona
is unavoidable
It always is
It can surprise us suddenly
Or slowly sneak into reality's crevices
Disguised as the shadow of fear
Creeping like a dark cloud
Even as we run from it
Dying happens
As every last breath increases
Transformed into a number we cannot fathom
Dying happens
With every thought about "what next" or "what if"
Dying happens
With all attempts at distraction
Dying happens
As we intellectualize politicize catastrophize minimize
Dying happens
When we fail to visualize truth long enough
To learn to love to live in relation
With mother earth her animals our human nature
Dying happens
While vital questions remain unexplored
We live in grief
As dying happens

Myrna, thank you for posting at earthweal.......so much dying is happening, because we have not lived in relation to earth and her creatures. You are so right. Vital questions are definitely not being explored, sadly we do not have visionaries as leaders. Lovely to read you. Thanks so much for linking.

How I hope we learn from this - the world over.
And yes, grief and death are always part of our lives. Which we need to remember.
We know that death is part of the circle of life, but not on the scale of a pandemic. I like the simile in the lines:

and the repetition of ‘dying happens’ is effective.
It's that "surprise suddenly" isn't it?--though other kinds of deaths can be sudden too. This one, though, intrudes, and was highly preventable. I love how you use the refrain--a real downer--but effectively from Corona, it slips in again and again and the numbers grow just like that.
