REPETITION

I love how nature plays its music
Again, again, again
Yet to me its melody's always new
As if birds just composed their song
Or coyotes modernized their howl
Honoring the moon's smile
In vastness of sky
I love how stars shimmer
Their twinkling sparkle
Making glitter in my eyes
I love the emptiness of space
Allowing silence to precede
The sun's crescendo
It's loud light painting
New designs of beams or clouds
As my senses recognize the truth
Of how splendidly nature loves me
Though I trample on her bounty
Ravaging her generosity
Loving her
Like a selfish, ignorant child
Again, again, again

(I suppose it's fair to take responsibility for my own carbon footprint.)

  1. Oh yes.
Nature is the most skilled of artists, with spectacular galleries and an incomparable palette.
I adore her work, but sadly I also smudge and damage some of it.
Your poem speaks very loudly to my regretful and also guilty self.

  2. I think, in your closing lines, you speak for all of us.

  3. It's very fair to recognize one's own carbon footprint - this terrible collective footprint humanity leaves is all of our fault -- but there is more joy here I think than guilt. Or maybe what it means to be a conscious participant in the joy, knowing full well our pleasure has a cost. Humanity is a selfish, ignorant child for sure ... Thanks so for bringing this to earthweal, very much enjoyed ...

  4. Wonderful to see you at Earthweal, Myrna. I know how you love your mountains and landscape. I am always amazed, too, at how bountiful Mother Earth is,even with all we have done to her.

  5. Nature brings beauty into our lives, today there is a clear blue sky. I do feel the birds compose a new song each day. Such a lovely melody to embrace the day. I think we all could take a lesson from nature. May mother earth have mercy on us.
