Should I rest in lifeless slumber
This day
So filled
With nightmarish trepidation
Obscuring even my yearning
for a happy tomorrow
How can I rush to awaken
Knowing my heart will be pierced by arrows
Making me bleed into my dreams
That dissipate
Into death
Or should I rise like the sun
Each morning
Seizing the darkness
Seizing the darkness
With brightness
Illuminating beauty
As well as ugly insane beasts
That live each second
Fully
Will I choose
This day
To camouflage my fear with sleep
Or rise and burn the senseless evil monsters
I say Rise.
ReplyDeleteRise with all your strength.
For you already know what it is to fall.
I feel the weariness in these words
I echo. ..Rise...and slay those monsters!
ReplyDeleteRise!
ReplyDeleteYes, we shall rise. And the more of us who do, the better things will get. I am inspired by the young people speaking out........they give me hope.
ReplyDeleteWe cannot change what is past, we don't know what tomorrow brings, we can only live today! Rise with strength!
ReplyDeleteBurn the monsters..yes if only everyday could dawn with that fire...wise words!
ReplyDeleteWhat a a contrary race we are that knows happiness yet are sometimes powerless to keep it with others hell bent on unsettling nations and possibly the whole world. This beautiful world able to sustain us but continually abused and degraded by stupid mankind. So stupid in fact that they think that once they've destroyed this one they can fly to another dead planet and live there instead.
ReplyDelete"Seizing the darkness / With brightness / Illuminating beauty"....I love the Power that dwells here. May the voice of poets rise more on present darkness all over the world.
ReplyDeleteThere comes a point when listless hiding away from the world becomes a trap. As poets, we spring that trap with words. We must choose to rise and seize the darkness and wrestle it into beautiful words - which is what you've done, Myrna, with your poem.
ReplyDelete"Or should I rise like the sun
ReplyDeleteEach morning
Seizing the darkness"
Sometimes I find it takes so much effort to embrace my own shadow that I am willing to remain unaware of the external plight of the world for just a bit longer. This is a very fine Poem. Please share it widely!
I always trust poets to rise like the sun and illuminate beauty, whilst they burn the senseless monsters, of course. Brilliant write, Myrna!
ReplyDeletethe alternative to rising is just to hard to bare... We must continue live
ReplyDeletedefinitely rise!
ReplyDeletethe light chases away a lot of darkness, you know... smiles
