The way I'm afraid of my future sometimes
When my gut feels like stone
My heart thumps out of rhythm
My mind is threatened, attacked
By dooming thoughts
"Not again," I pray
Watching the sunset
Knowing darkness follows
Not really certain
If I can land on stars
That don't twinkle
"Yes again," answers the sky
Smiling at my fears
So irrational
It waits
While I'm still
Then it beams
Even through night
When I finally chose
To blast
Into its vastness
(For Poets United.)
This is wonderful, Myrna, the fear of, then surrender to the night.....I especially love "not really certain if I can land on stars that dont twinkle". Perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely gorgeously penned, Myrna❤️ a most gentle and heart-stirring poem that one can grow into. Sigh.. beautifully penned!❤️
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Sanaa
Oh yes, throw yourself out there like Whitman's spider. We will all envy your necessary courage! Taking risks to test out a vision is the best chance we have. Great poem!
ReplyDeleteLuv the movements of fear, the inevitable, and the rationalisation
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, thank for dropping by my blog today
Much love...
"Not really certain
ReplyDeleteIf I can land on stars
That don't twinkle"
Awfully hard to do! Your poem was charming. Stay away from space ships! Lol!
"Yes again," answers the sky... YES.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same as you do in your first stanza. My mind too is threatened, attacked, by dooming thoughts! Never thought it possible that at this time of my life I would awaken each day with fear.
ReplyDeleteyes, i believe the sky will catch us:
ReplyDeleteNot really certain
If I can land on stars
That don't twinkle
and i totally understand your fears.
Not really certain
ReplyDeleteIf I can land on stars
That don't twinkle... how well you've worded this...wonderful!
This is gorgeous, Myrna. I love,
ReplyDelete'Not really certain
If I can land on stars
That don't twinkle'
I share your uncertainty, and the need for proof.
The stars are not twinkling...neither are the stripes . Anxiety and uncertainty... many would be feeling like you.You can only stay positive and do your little bit for change.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you have said here what so many of would say ourselves about the vastness of space and ou incomprehsion of it. Beautifully written Myrna.
ReplyDeletethis is a gorgeous & heartfelt write Myrna..."Not really certain / If I can land on stars / That don't twinkle" love the lines and also the sky character...
ReplyDeleteEven through night
ReplyDeleteWhen I finally chose
To blast
Into its vastness
There is so much mystique and mystery when one thinks of the one step beyond even if it is now a reality!

Lovely poem, Myrna, and i love its metaphorical underpinning! Space travel as a metaphor for any of our undertakings that fill us with trepidation is a wonderful device!
