painted nature scenes, portraits,
took photographs of colors dancing,
sang songs of praise to the sky,
or looked deeply into their own eyes
to see
they are from beauty starving.
Then perhaps they'd engage
in leadership art
not political games
which fatten their ego with power's
empty calories for the soul.
We, the people, must rebel!
Let us proclaim our right
to vote for artful beauty.
Perhaps then politicians
will eat out of our hands,
join us
in the pursuit of happiness.

I wonder if they did would they still be politicians - to explore the world, yourself takes reflection, self doubt, humility - and a lot of the time pain as well as beauty..qualities that sadly seem to lack in those who control the world..but yes..if only - a wonderful poem
ReplyDeleteExcellent writing Myrna, love the power and wisdom in your verse and yes I too wish that these corrupt politicians from everywhere around the world could write poetry or perhaps paint so as to realize what's missing from their lives. Beautifully rendered.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support :D :D
Lots of love,
Sanaa
Wouldn't that be wonderful...but it seems they just want empty calories for their souls.
ReplyDeleteI love the thoughts... and I wonder if poetry could change the world for the better. If beauty could. I hope this could happen.
ReplyDelete"They are from beauty starving". That says it all to perfection, my friend. Wow. A brilliant observation. I wish they would do those things too. I think many did vote for the dream when they elected Obama. What follows after him may well be the nightmare. Yes, let's all demand beauty - and integrity - from our leaders.
ReplyDeleteEven if they can't create (and some of us can't) there is room for appreciators. Not destroyers...
ReplyDeleteMyrna, I am on the same 'page' as you are. "Leadership art, not political games." I wonder which of our political candidates write poetry.
ReplyDeleteI think a politician would write poetry with a personal agenda and sugar coat the lines to sweeten up the voters. I am so dis-illusion with the election here.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this line:
ReplyDeletethey are from beauty starving.
I think such lowly beings as shrewd politicians of Machiavellian height are so much vice personified that even Art would miserably fail...ha even Adolf Hitler painted...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful... impossible...and yet!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful... impossible..and yet!!!
ReplyDeleteVery topical for Australians, where politicians have recently cut funding to many arts organisations.
ReplyDeleteThe Australian government has made savage cuts to the funding of the arts.Arts is not regarded as important at all.
ReplyDeleteTechnology reigns supreme here.Very very depressing reality.Tell me which country values its artists...I may immigrate:)
What a wonderful world that would be XXX
ReplyDeleteTheir eyes are different beauty for them is a commodity a source of wealth and pride that could make them even richer. Politicians once served the people, their country but no longer. Beauty will always be seen by those that really care.
ReplyDeleteLove the passion in this piece. If poetry could change the world, indeed!
ReplyDelete"they are from beauty starving"
ReplyDelete"engage in leadership art"
"vote for artful beauty"
Golly! May the dream in this poem come true!
Amen....I think our politicians require poetry in the real sense of the word to progress. Let the healing poetry start.... :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lines, Myrna.
I like the image of politicians eating out of the hands of their constituents. However, I'm pessimistic enough to believe that it will never happen!
ReplyDeleteImage a world where politicians craft beauty out of word and deed. This is a provocative write
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
These wishes sounds so fresh and innovative... I like art and politic topic, very interesting!
