calling me
from so far away.
The lyrics said,
"It's time
to visit living salty spice,
roll in grainy grit,
that rubs, sticks to you,
makes you shake, play, reawake.
Dive into vastness'
gulp. Let it swallow, chew, propel you
with pulse of foamy wetness.
Drown in forgetfulness
until once again you remember
a newborn's breath.
Then wave to the waves,
Return to the desert,
Until you hear this song again."
I could do nothing
An earworm, sometimes known as a brainworm, is a catchy piece of music that continually repeats through a person's mind after it is no longer playing.
Phrases used to describe an earworm include musical imagery repetition, involuntary musical imagery, and stuck song syndrome. (Wikipedia)

ah...what beauty wells up from its bosom...the ocean knows how to connect..."Then wave to the waves, / Return to the desert, / Until you hear this song again."...how true!
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely something about the call of the ocean that cannot be resisted. And once you have heard it, the song stays with you. (Nice picture, Myrna!)
ReplyDeleteIt is too long since I have heard that siren call. Too long since I have tasted the salt, felt the grit, soothed my soul with its dance.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the reminder.
That song of the sea calls to me endlessly, as you know. I am glad you heeded its call. Myrna, I upgraded my system and lost your email address. Will you please email me at wildwoman2@shaw.ca?? Thanks, kiddo.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we all have that ocean inside... those waves that call us back through gene poles, spiraling back into our past... I love it Myrna.
ReplyDeleteThere is something absolutely enthralling about the call of the ocean. How could we resits its melody, indeed...
ReplyDeleteGlad you answered the call, seems you had a lot of fun
ReplyDeleteHave a nice Sunday
Much love...
The sea might be the most ancient sound of all. This is a good reminder of why it so appeals to us.

Oh the ocean called to me a couple of weeks ago and I drove over to the coast to smell the salty air and just feel the peace...
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of one of my favorite quotes by John Muir (just substitute 'ocean' for 'mountains'): "The mountains are calling and I must go." There is definitely something about that 'call' of nature....I LOVE how you likened it to an earworm....that is so apt. And, yes, we must obey that incessant music when it sings to us :-) This is lovely, Myrna!!
ReplyDeleteThe call of the sea is impossible to resist...
ReplyDelete"Drown in forgetfulness
ReplyDeleteuntil once again you remember
a newborn's breath."...Lovely! Being in Rhythm with the Ocean waves is refreshing and rejuvenating indeed. The relationship between the sea and a surfer is idyllically reminiscent of the give and take we share with life. Beautiful poem, myrna!
Yes, the ocean will call you like that! Called me for six years once, before I returned to the hills. (I couldn't do desert.)
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful to read.
ReplyDeleteyes, this is so dreamy. we let the child in us take over and just listen to the ocean's song.
ReplyDeletelovely poem!
What a wonderful ear worm it turned out to be - sometimes we need to be reminded to listen for that song - also love the photo :) looks lovely there and you look most relaxed
ReplyDeleteI do believe the sea speaks to us on a different level of communication.
ReplyDeleteLove the renewal of the child and the return to the desert. There you must remember the earworm to be renewed gain.
ReplyDeleteWonderful choice of words that mesmerize. Awesome writing!
ReplyDeleteThe ocean knows seduction very well. We always submit to the call of the ocean most of the times.
ReplyDeleteThe photo shouts peace. Thanks for this Myrna
