Solitude

Just Doodling

I sit in quiet space doing what I do.
My morning is happening to me
as I read, write, draw
in joy of my solitude.
Once in a while, I look out
to see my mountains,
the way a lover glances at her beloved
to validate love.

I use the word "my" in jest.
Morning, solitude, mountains.
They're not mine.
Not even love possesses.

All I have is Me,
composite of all I have lived.
I own nothing except my birthright quest
to shed layers of shadows
that hide me, keep me
from the gift, the real, the quirky
uniqueness of who I am.

So, I sit in my quiet space,
to do what I do.
Gradually,
I accept.

  1. How I resonate with this poem, Myrna....the joy in solitude, the look at your beloved mountains, as one looks at a lover......the acceptance. Loved this.

  2. I enjoyed this very much and read it twice, in fact. And by the way, your "doodles" are much more than doodles. You're quite gifted.

  5. Oh I really love this... how we really use the word my and mine... somehow we know it's never ours... but it's our senses... the vision we have of the mountain is yours.. and you can only share your feelings...

  7. There is such wisdom in this beautiful poem Myrna - true we don't own the mountains or the world around us but i think respect for it makes us part of it..and solitude not loneliness can bring much peace and healing

  11. This is beautiful, Myrna. So reflective. So true. Indeed all each one of us has is ourselves. I think we need to remind ourselves of this sometime.

  13. Acceptance ... that is, truly, where the serenity in this life is to be found. A thoughtful piece, beautifully rendered. And as an aside - I love the pix of you and the dogs. Delightful!

  14. Yes, we like to possess the outside world, my, mine...while the real value is our inner world, what we're doing now - you said that. Solitude it's BIG. Love your doodles.
