but not my disposition
muddled when muddy thoughts
swallow me like quick sand.
On those days I envy the sun,
not just its brightness,
but its consistent wisdom
that keeps it burning
while I just keep yearning
for the world to turn my way.
"Worry does no good," I'm told
as my thoughts rotate around fear
for someone I so love.
It takes a little time for me
to accept how the world revolves,
the sun rises and sets,
how I need not dwell in the night,
but chose the light instead.

A lovely illustration of something which is true here too. I wish it wasn't, but it is.
ReplyDeletei have those dark hours or even days myself when the world seems full of shadows... it's good to get a well meant reminder by a loving person that worry is of no use... it's true... it doesn't change anything, just robs us of perspective and joy..

ReplyDeleteI love that perspective to choose the light instead ~ This part also resonates with me:

I know the distracted sick-in-the-pit-of-the-stomach feeling of worry for a loved one. You have captured it so well here. We do strive for the light but, sometimes, there is much to worry about!
ReplyDeleteIt can be difficult when our thoughts rotate around fear..I think it is better to try and walk towards the light if one can.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a little time for me
to accept how the world revolves,
ps - it takes me a little time as well
we're sometimes caught in the whirlwind of conflict between the desire of turning the world our way and to accept the how the world revolves and words like "Worry does no good," are true sunshine....
ReplyDeleteGreat imagery used here.
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful way to introspect...Beautifully expressed!
ReplyDeleteYes, it does. True. Start day with 'what if' and be surprise by result, the world will revolve around you....~ I'm trying too...ah....
ReplyDeleteYour poem evokes the frustration of not being able to help someone you love. Sometimes we are rendered powerless. We all know worrying does not achieve anything but I am still at loss as to how to stop doing it. Good poem Myrna. Prayers and crossing fingers and toes for you ! :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes we have no control over events in our lives...how hard it is to sit back and let things evolve and revolve...like the sun...what a philosophical poem
ReplyDeleteReads like a song, filled with so much vividness...thanks for sharing!
