People watching the sunset. |
A little like a spark, a bit like music floating in water,
or the scent of evaporated candy, or colors melting,
covering all, becoming invisible, silent but always there.
I like to imagine this my core.
My outer layers are comprised of so many things
I am and so many I am not.
I'm a woman with many roles, dual cultures,
I speak two tongues. I'm not very involved
with romance, career, or mobility going up.
That's just my way of saying,
I have few milestones waiting.
But I do welcome surprises.
The person I show, is nice.
That's what I'm told people see.
The person I know is mixed.
Kind, patient, compassionate,
judgmental, self-righteous.
(Even a little mean ?)
I like to think I work
mostly at being
a better person, who fully loves.
But I need to work harder
because that's who I'd like to be
before there's no more me.

smiles....its good to know who we want to be...so that we can work toward it...i like your differentiation between the person you know yourself to be and the person you show yourself to be
ReplyDeleteA questioning path will always lead you on.:)
ReplyDeleteHi Myrna, I think we all have that inner and outer person, one that others see and the other that we know. But I don't think we should ever judge that one that only WE know harshly...as we are all 'human' and imperfect beings....
ReplyDeleteA little like a spark, a bit like music floating in water,
ReplyDeleteor the scent of evaporated candy, or colors melting,
covering all, becoming invisible, silent but always there.
I like to imagine this my core.
Amazing...and then that wonderful ending! Thank you for this.
Thanks for revealing the colorful core and honest disconnect between the person we show and the one we know...insightful!
ReplyDeletea woman with many roles, dual cultures..speaking two tongues... that is cool - and i think each of us has so many layers and depending on whom we are with we show this or that side of us.. and i wonder if we ever manage to fully love.. maybe we can come close and it's worth the work...
ReplyDeletenice pic of san diego... enjoy your holiday... when i was in california in november 2012 i spent a day in san diego - and it probably was the weirdest day in my whole life...smiles
an insightful reflection on self..."But I do welcome surprises."...i love this line...life is about surprises...
ReplyDeletebit like music floating in water, or the scent of evaporated candy, or colors melting, love the imagery
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful self-portrait, Myrna! I enjoyed getting to know more about you. We all have things that are nice and some that are we prefer to keep to ourselves. Yet your closing stanza shows a generous person who strives to do better as we should all do.
ReplyDeleteour lives are always a work in progress
ReplyDeleteGreat response to the question "Who are you"....down to earth, I would say, and I love how you described your core - I see light, music, goodness and sweetness (candy) and colors melting...all speak to me of unconditional love.
ReplyDeleteLots of perspective here, "the person I show" vs. "the person I know"...love this. Also, the idea of growth, as we really never stop changing our identity if we are truly growing. :)
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the woman of many roles, dual cultures & speaking of two tongues ~ Always striving to be better person, I like that ~ Enjoy your vacation ~
ReplyDeleteI love this, Myrna........especially "there's who I'd like to be before there is no more me." Me too, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI really like the truthful honesty.. We are not exactly what our ambitions mean
ReplyDeleteYour words are full of reflection of what you see and what others see..but, I do welcome surprises..I think we all welcome those sudden bursts.
ReplyDeleteI love where you went with this: honest introspection (and, dare I say, a bit hard on yourself), down to earth and that wonderful almost humorous close, but then there is the lyrical description of the core at the beginning. I like that very much.
ReplyDelete"Deep, deep inside there's something indiscribable.
ReplyDeleteA little like a spark, a bit like music floating in water,
or the scent of evaporated candy, or colors melting,
covering all, becoming invisible, silent but always there.
I like to imagine this my core"
I am glad I visited you. I read this post more than once. Each time loving more.
