where I've begun several projects:
some poems, a portrait, a picture book and more.
All unfinished, an interactive illustration
of the project that is my life.
of the project that is my life.
Often, I'm here in silence doing nothing
allowing life to continue motionless
while I prepare to make the simple or hard choices.
After all this time trying to figure out what matters,
now even the "insignificant" has deep meaning for me.
It's all a metaphor, I'm realizing.
As I get older I'm learning
how infinity can reside in an instant,
each little moment so precious.
I like sitting in this mess, this life
while choosing what to do with the time remaining
before the day passes and I must sleep.
It's not always fun, or peaceful,
or devoid of challenges, which I thought
were reserved for the young.
Now I know life never rests or retires.
It's an enigmatic song that keeps playing
until the very end.
I'm grateful.
(For Poets United where today's prompt is "choices".)
You know truth be told we should all live our lives or such a way that we are considering the shortening of pur days. I always say a mess is the at art of something beautiful
ReplyDeleteMyrna, I always come to your poems knowing that I will learn something....or learn something about you....or express some universal truth. In this poem I think you have shared a bit of universal truth. There are periods of time that we do nothing...as we wait to make those choices! And, yes, even the insignificant can have deep meaning... It takes a while for us to learn this. And, yes, keep thatsong playing!
ReplyDeleteThe small things are huge in my world, so yes, the insignificant does indeed have deep meaning.
ReplyDeleteThank you for another stunning piece on the chaos, the mess and the beauty which constitute life.
Life is in the detail so if you are lucky enough to appreciate all the little things
ReplyDeleteyou are living in a cornucopia of wealth surrounded by wonder. Glad you are cherishing every moment...insightful poem!
Yes - it is very good when we realise that a messy fun space is the place where we can be truly free and create - and be ourselves - i love both the image and words :)
ReplyDeleteMe too, similarly grateful! :-)
ReplyDelete"It's all a metaphor, I'm learning." Simply and powerfully expressed, this poem full of life's wisdom. One of your best, my friend.
ReplyDeleteexperiences do teach us how even the insignificant is meaningful, "how infinity can reside in an instant", how messy and beautiful is life and creation...such an insightful poem....
ReplyDeleteFor sure life is an enigmatic song that plays its tune until the end :D
ReplyDeleteBeautifully penned!
Lots of love
Sanaa
We must be grateful for each moment that life brings to us and allow ourselves to oak in each moment. I love your thoughtful expression in this, Myrna :)
ReplyDeleteMe too--so much gratitude for realizing the significance of the most insignificant before it is too late to enjoy it. Your lovely meditation here reminds me of Emily's in OUR TOWN when she has one more day among the living. Of course, beyond that, I want many more years among these projects some of which I believe are gifts of God. (Thanks for your comment on my little poem.)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this glimpse into your creative space.
ReplyDeleteVery often, the meditation precedes the decision
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
I am working on gratitude these days--mostly right now, I am feeling the loss of things that came easily when I was younger--your piece was perfect for me today!
ReplyDeleteLove the reflections Myrna ~ Specially admire this part:
ReplyDeleteAs I get older I'm learning
how infinity can reside in an instant,
each little moment so precious.
Yes, I believe that the little things make us happy. My best fulfilled days - when I manage to fit into the day a few little things I like. They are not necessarily the priority, but should be - to keep us rolling!
ReplyDeleteIt's "dem little, ordinary things", innit? :-) Thanks, loved this.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
The dance of one who creates is always in motion even when it feels like it's still...cheers to your funspace and creative choices you make!
ReplyDeleteart and life can be quite messy at times which makes both all the more real and authentic.
ReplyDeletei love that you have such a creative space where you can work on different projects or just think about life - i think generally we run too fast and do not take enough time to think about things and just rest in the moment - i have to learn that more
I am so envious of people with ordered lives but in reality my randomness is much more enjoyable. There will be projects I don't complete and others I didn't expect to achieve but do. However being pleased with what you attempt to do is far more important.
ReplyDeleteI liked the concept of infinity residing in an instant. How true when every one of our choices can take us into an infinity of directions!
