THOUGHT WAVES OF MY MIND

source

Each generation is a new wave
rising, then frothing in swirls
that imprint marks in history
with indelible ink
writing a suspenseful mystery.

I watch the children play
mingling movement, laughter, dance
along with an unabashed exposure
of their joy.  I play too, but awkwardly,
a stranger in a foreign land, learning
enough words to get by.

But enough of words and metaphors
that distance me from real emotions of my life.
It's my grandchildren who represent
the future I won't see, it is their
generation whose imagination, undulating
in new waters, will design what needs to be.
It's my personal love for them that keeps me
wanting the world to succeed at evolution,
at revolution never before seen,
because it happens at a level deeper than cellular,
it happens where imagination's never been,
it happens somewhere in a wave so high
it crashes so hard, it cracks all that is
and suddenly... something new,
if not bigger - better, better, better!

This is how I control my mind,
allowing only thoughts of better futures,
otherwise waves of worry flood
the happy play I'm trying to learn
before I wave goodbye to the kids I love.

There is so much to enjoy together with the young ones. Our inputs might reach them better than all the readings in the world. Truly said Myrna! And there is no reason to worry any more on nitty gritties. Great lines Ma'am!

  2. Oh this is so moving, Myrna...........the thought of that huge wave, breaking the world into a new paradigm is a powerful one. So poignant the thought of waving goodbye to the grandchildren we love......

  3. Oh yes! All the children, and especially these children. If we don't learn to play for ourselves, at least we will for them. And then anything is possible. I like the progression here, the casual change of subjects, the unexpected depth of meaning. My favorite lines:
    ". . . .
    at revolution never before seen,
because it happens at a level deeper than cellular,
it happens where imagination's never been,
it happens somewhere in a wave so high
it crashes so hard, it cracks all that is
    and suddenly... something new . . . "

  4. Ah, yes. What an insightful closing verse. The importance of the discipline of channelling the projections our minds are capable of producing...

  5. Just beautiful.
And how sad that we forget how to play. Too early. Way too early...

  6. Being a grandmother myself I can so relate to your words. There is a feeling of hope but a fear that goes along side. I am praying, too. Lovely poem

  8. I like the concept of your poem very much, Myrna. Yes, the children are the wave of the future, and I think we have to have faith and hope that the wave our grandchildren will bring in will be a good one, that the evolution of the world will go in a good direction. I like thinking only of better futures; and I feel the sadness in the eventuality of having to wave good-bye as well!

  9. "it is their / generation whose imagination, undulating / in new waters, will design what needs to be." really love how the blessing and faith of an elder is wrapped round the words for the future generation..and yes we all look forward to "something new, / if not bigger - better, better, better!" and at last sadly accept the reality of bidding them goodbye...a heartfelt poem Myrna...

Ohh...this is really beautiful, Myrna...Children are indeed, the wave of the future. Let's hope they grow up into decent, balanced human beings to make a happy world!

  12. sometimes i wonder in what kind of world we're leaving them... though i try to think positive as well... we can love them, teach them, equip them with all they need for their journey to make this world a better and more beautiful place

  13. It is good that you fill your thoughts with better futures. There are far too many examples of a dystopian future in our media and even what the pundits say. Hopefully each generation reaches beyond us in their endeavors, if we fill them with the right hope.

  14. I suppose playing evolves with age as does most things...I love the concept of children being the next wave..if they learn from people as yourself there is much hope...

  16. Oh Myrna, this is so beautiful! I am still dealing with some ongoing pain, not driving yet, but able to take short walks in the woods behind our house. I am grateful for this, there was a time when this was not even a possibility.

  17. Lovely analogy of the sea and its waves being like life and its vicissitudes. Our descendants will have to negotiate the waves as best they can in their ships, we can only provide the best training we can for their captaincy... Lovely, Myrna.
