GRATITUDE - DIFFERENT BUT THE SAME

Remember?
How that cute, cheap little rug covered the floor stain
of tiny, furnished apartment where we first stayed?
Lazy Sundays watching TV in bed, drinking what we could find -
tea, that I didn't even know how to make. How we laughed.

Went to the fair.  Walked on dusty paths
peeking at exhibitions, not realizing we were one -
poor, silly couple who could afford tickets to none.

Recall when food shopping was fun?
Meat, three pounds/a dollar, okay.
It could be disguised a million ways.
Spiced with imagination, stretched with desire,
we learned how to expand it,
and we were full.

   *

Aren't you glad the floors are nice in our big house today?
That we go out most everyday, walk on solid paved road,
marvel at the same wondrous, magnificent display.
And now there's nothing to pay.

Do you agree food shopping is still fun?
That our challenges are not the same,
because we have a little more money,
more important - we have time to play.

Do you think life has changed?
When on quiet, still moments after a good meal,
sighing, we glance at the stories in our eyes,
smile, rub our expanded bellies satisfied,
and know
we are full.

  10. This was so beautiful, you show so poetically that it does not always matter who much richness you carry in your hands, but how much you harbor within in your heart;) In my experience, I was the richest when I was the poorest.;) It is alway the company we keep, that makes us feel like a royalty or like a fool.;)
Have a great weekend dear Myrna,
    xoxo

  11. I still wish I had been rich when I was young. I no doubt would have missed some things, but I still wish it.
