MORNING MEMORY

The orange moon at dawn
Was like dripping ripe fruit
Which I visually tasted
As I watched it sink
Into someone else's night
Winking at morning's sun
Becoming bright
Like a salute or a blessing
An intimate au revoir
Between light and light

How privileged I was
To witness this exchange
A present from the gods of love
Showing me affection
In that tiny drop of eternity
Into which I can still dive
Backstroke swimming through time
In my mind

  1. This is very lovely. And I suspect that is your painting, of the mountains and the morning and it is very beautiful indeed. I remember once, getting on the boat to go to work, seeing the moon still in sky on one side of the harbour as the sun came up on the other. It was spectacular. "A drop of eternity", as you say in your lovely poem.

  2. I love the sight of moon at dawn... (but dawn is at 4.05 here so I hope that I'm still asleep)

  11. Isn't it amazing that we are able (if we wish) to enter into the tiniest bit of eternity?
