THE LITTLE CLOUD'S QUESTION

I notice the little cloud
dangling alone above the mountain
watching
as big and tiny animals
roam, others fly
looking for food.
Often the smaller ones become the food.
A hidden stream gently flows
where no one can find it.
The little cloud squints.
In awe, it perceives the slow birth of green.

"Why is the world so beautiful?"*
it asks the mountain,
who responds the way mountains do,
with smiles.

I notice the little cloud.
A story tells itself.
This is what happens.
