FEELING PAIN FOR PARIS...and for the world.

Finally, my tears are streaming.
Up to now, I've been protective,
unwilling to allow the fumes
of my grief to filter out
from my darkness.

My feelings refuse to hide any longer.
They demand acknowledgement, or
they'll imprison me until I face them,
ugly as they are, but real
as the beauty of an explosive sunset.
They are like poems, the slam kind
that hurt because they reveal monstrous truths
lurking within my heart.

Truth sees my fear producing reasons to hate,
thoughts justifying their 'logic'
about violence, revenge, fury, retaliation,
saying "kill or be killed".
Truth sees this fog blocking my hope.
It sees, my internal war,
blatant, merciless.
It sees itself
as I see myself
trying to revive the truth
of peace and love.

    They are like poems"

Like this poem, wrestling with your angels. So many of us are in that place you describe. I am speechless, myself, holding the hand of Mother Nature and hiding behind her skirts.

  4. I love it.
I refuse to bow to hate, and retaliation. We have been down that path, and it made the ugliness grow.
How I wish we would/could realise that this world is a community. We are ALL in it together.

  5. Myrna, I so hear you. On facebook there is a wonderful statement from a man who was captured by ISIS, later released, saying they want us to respond with retaliation as it serves their cause...........that a measured calm response would not serve them nearly as well as the fear and militancy does. Your poem echoes the poem that has been on facebook lately - "I asked the world: where does it hurt? and it said Everywhere. Everywhere. Everywhere."

  6. Violence begets violence. It is sad as there is no finality!

  9. Oh I feel the emotions Myrna and so many of us echo them.
I realized I hadnt written a poem in weeks it is one place where my emotion can be allowed to flow - oh let the streams of tears roll for senseless destruction of precious lives.

  10. Like the way you compare feelings to poems that reveal the big truths...

  12. I think a horrific situation such as the Paris terrorism makes us think about our own truths. We sometimes cannot deny the feelings we have within, and some of them we are not proud of.

This is so powerful...and truthful. Thank you for this poem.

Beauty is truth, truth beauty - that's all ye need to know...Keats
Authentic feelings are real and beautiful...Politically correct mantra responses are just hypocritical !

  15. Yes, it is a great personal struggle to show mercy in such situations, Myrna. But the strong are the ones who are the most merciful. And as Gandhi said: "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
