LIFE'S DREAM

"Yesterday is today's memory, and tomorrow is today's dream."
                                                                              Kahlil Gibran

I decide to go home the long way through curvy, dangerous roads, along mountanous cliffs so high I feel like a cloud, one afraid of heights.  But gradually I descend into the calm security of level ground, where I impusively turn into a desolate place that seems a dream misplaced. Friendly leaves wave me in, invite me to stay a while.  I let myself be swallowed by the forest, greener than green.

I sit by a noisy stream, with white foaming bubbles rushing then relaxing to caress the rocky floor before moving on.  Does it know I'm watching?  Because it does seem to show off for me, trying to be different from all other streams that crash, flow, then turn, slide, crash again into rocks that know how to be still. It keeps moving, apparently hoping to find its source, its unique identity, by allowing yesterday's water to spill in, while splashing a little differently today.  Tomorrow?  Who knows?

Hope clarifies life
gushing and flowing
towards its final destination

For Dverse Poets where we're asked to write a Haibun with a theme from Kahlil Gibran's quote.

  1. It would be nice to take that uncharted road once in a while ~ I specially admire this part Myrna:

I think we will all arrive at the same final destination ~ You did well with the Haibun Myrna ~

  2. I like the idea of hope clarifying life. Life is nothing without clarity....without hope! And hopefully the final destination is a long way off.

  4. Very poignant...even a rushing stream has lessons to teach us. Beautifully done, Myrna.

  5. Strong prose drama, mantled as metaphor. I was up in the mountains this morning, watched the sun rise on mt. Rainier from an outlook at 5,280 feet. very spiritual; then sat by Huckleberry Creek for a time, gathering handfuls of hope. How lovely you were tuned in to it.

  6. How much walking in nature helps us to find places that is really something in ourselves. Maybe it's all that's needed to feel well, it could be the stream or a tree speaking to us, but I'm sure that it is solved by walking.

  11. Love the image 'I feel like a cloud', when struggling with heights, and peacefulness of watching the stream, talk with water ~ clarity - what we all want - nice haiku for dreamy walk.

  13. I like how you personify the water! You captured the peace and hope we get from nature, how it takes us out of ourselves, rearranges us, and then puts us back into ourselves with a new outlook. Hope....wonderful work. Spencer is Kanzensakura

    Becoming one with nature...

Your description was so alive in me, that I felt you had transported me there! A feeling I haven't experienced in a long while, so I thankyou for that.
