SEEKING BALANCE

Is all as it should be?
because it seems like it isn't.
The world  is
beyond complexity, reaching absurdity
of clashing ideologies, people, the climate.
Sharks are mistaking the shallow shore
for the depths of blue oceans,
the way we sometimes mistake
up for down.

Have the gods gone crazy?
Have we? or is this that dream illusion
some allude to, from which we must awake
in order to truly see?

I wish I had answers, but I am where I am,
in between sleep and wakefulness,
traveling towards the best star I can create,
striving to accept it, to accept myself
(even though I yawn and doze),
and all that is, is.

"The thing that is important is the thing that is not seen..."

....."All men have the stars...but they are not the same things for different people.  For some, who are travelers, the stars are guides.  For others, they are no more than little lights in the sky.  For others who are scholars, they are problems.  For my businessman, they were wealth.  But all these stars are silent."

Excerpt from "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Sainte Exupery.

  1. I wish I had answers, but I am where I am,
    in between sleep and wakefulness,

Loved these lines.. life is a dream..we live each day and forget the next.. we keep moving on towards our goals and ask questions to which there are no answers. But our answers will be given to us one day when the thin line between sleep and wakefulness will break.Beautifully penned!

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa

  2. First great book.

There is so much on this world to worry about that we can not do anything about but we feel the pressure of it. The best we can do is take care of what we can

  3. I loved the lines "in between sleep and wakefulness,
traveling towards the best star I can create". We should all try the same.
    Beautifully penned :)

  4. I always come away from your work uplifted, Myrna........I resonate completely with this poem.........I especially love "traveling towards the best star I can create".....love the trying to awaken, and also the need for dozing. (I did a fair bit of dozing today and am the better for it, LOL.)

  6. Sadly when we are young we feel we can achieve something in life and sometimes we do however there is that growing concern that life has not turned out best for the world with continuing poverty and greed, corruption and war all around us.

  7. "The world is / beyond complexity, reaching absurdity" this is for the thoughtful souls who are also full of heart but for others the world has been like this from time immemorial...a thought provoking write Myrna as always....

  8. I think the world is both crazy and holds very few answers...finding our own star seems like a very wise and sensible choice

  9. Yes it is beyond the absurd and the answers we are given are rubbish. We were up the coast when a report had come in that billions of pounds of sea life (fish, squid, mammals) had washed up and were in shallow water. The report was the weather was too hot the day before (a balmy 80 degrees with a breeze. the water was perhaps 70)

  10. I like the idea of traveling toward the best star we can create. In a way we all determine our own journeys & choose our own stars. I love your quote from "The Little Prince." This is one of my favorite books of all times!!

  15. Myrna,

There is no doubt, that those of us who have experienced this life for a few years, see major changes almost everywhere and in every thing. It does not look good and has me constantly looking back to childhood days, and wondering what my grandparents would think of it too...Maybe they were equally afraid, of the world we inhabited!! A poem with much thought included...

One can be miserably mistaken sometimes. Well said Myrna!

  17. Good questions - and sometimes having answers too soon can be stultifying. Nice to be reminded of The Little Prince, a favourite of mine.
