IMPERMANENCE

My life?
I can't make a quick review.
It takes a lot of time to remember all
the big and little pieces.
My body, a memoir, written in unreadable wrinkles
tells the story of my specific joys, and all
I've lost.  But if I wrote a poem, it would be too long.
Instead, see me as a mandala designed in time,
like you
beautiful, unique, colorful art project,
in process of completion, then decomposition,
fragments dispersed
our NOWs gone forever.

(A sand mandala is ritualistically destroyed once it has been completed ... to symbolize the Buddhist doctrinal belief in the transitory nature of material life. (Wikipedia)

This is such a beautiful reference to time... our face perhaps tells signs of joy and sorrow..reflecting memoirs of years past.. and those which are yet to come :D

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa

  3. OH! MY! GOODNESS! How I love "my body, a memoir, written in unreadable wrinkles"! How I would have loved to write that line. And then you move into the cosmic view, we as mandalas (fantastic and original), that are intricately woven, and then dispersed........this is a really stellar poem, my friend. Loved it.

  5. our life is truly a mandala design meant for a while only...still it is a "beautiful, unique, colorful art project," and we thank God for that..a beautiful Time poem Myrna...

  6. Just as all the beautiful things come to an end so does life ,but sometimes it can be bitter to someone ad its end means peace.

  7. So beautiful dear Myrna, I look at the wrinkles in my hands and see a map of my life… a similar idea. I'm so grateful that one of the lines leads to you.

  8. I wish I had written this poem! A lifelong poem, one that reads life as thoroughly as a body records it, can not be written, I would think. And inviting someone to read as if a mandala can be as much or as little sensual as we wish! Beautiful.

  10. What a beautiful piece! The 'nows' do pass quickly...I feel I have been several lifetimes of 'me.'

  11. Beautiful recognition that we are ALL a work in progress... An impermanent work in progress.

  12. Oh yes, the wrinkles tell the story. We don't especially like them, but they explain much of who we are today! We are each indeed an art project - first being completed, then decomposed....little by little by little. I really enjoyed the way you worked this poem, Myrna! It is very 'timely.'

  13. Myrna,

You rightly point out that we are indeed, all works in progress..Evolving still, even when life has almost expired, time-wise...Sadly, those NOWS, all pass too quickly..

  26. A lovely piece, Myrna. I like the image of a mandala as a metaphor of our life and I like the way this reference includes both the creation of beauty and its destruction. Life, time and death! Wonderful...
