Dear Husband,
Remember the day I almost killed you?
You surprised me with a couple of peacocks
because I had admired them?
You were much younger then,
ignorant still of how love is
revealed fom the inside out,
not necessarily in big displays.
We can laugh now that you've learned
to love me with the simple extraordinariness
of every day when unexpectedly you peck a kiss,
massage my feet, make me coffee and good things to eat,
or silently gaze at my soul where you see how
in different ways, daily, I strive to reciprocate.

It is a lovely love. And love is definitely a process of learning to love. Peacocks. Wow, maybe I need to learn a little as well.
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile, Myrna! Not sure I would want to care for a couple of peacocks either....but, say, that was really a loving gesture. But..making coffee and good things to eat, there is something wonderfully 'ordinary' and loving about both of those things. It is the ordinary caring gestures that best express 'I love you.'
ReplyDeleteThis is very sweet, Myrna. Love is indeed in the daily details much more than in the extraordinary. All the better when the small gestures are reciprocated!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet...you are both fortunate.
ReplyDeleteOh this is the real deal - REAL love, foundations, walls and spaciousness of sky. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThose small details certainly make the everyday truly expressive of love.
ReplyDeleteSweet, Myrna. I love it!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your letter and the thought of getting peacocks made me smile. That is truly an amazing gift.
ReplyDeleteFoot massage is a sure fire winner, isn't it!
ReplyDeleteFoot massage is a sure fire winner, isn't it :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this is nice--a slice of love to envy.
ReplyDeleteoh heck - i find them beautiful but def. didn't want to have them in the house - or garden...smiles
ReplyDeletebut so very beautiful how he tries to surprise you... a beautiful love indeed... and sounds like it still grows and grows...
A pair of peacocks.. Sounds like a grand display ;-) but I can understand how those simple things works a lot better.
ReplyDeleteAh.. yes.. peacocks of presents are not a way of love for me..
ReplyDeletebut my wife has at least a thousand dolphins..
as gifts of bottle nose.. and fins
are her way of Love..
more dolphins come...
'Yes.. dear'.. more
dolphins..:)
Awww. A truly heart-warming truth. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMyrna,
ReplyDeleteThis has got to be true love...Displays of affection usually say so much...Peacocks make such noisy neighbours too!

Woo, I enjoyed reading this piece.
ReplyDelete"the simple extraordinariness".... such exquisite expression makes Earth a love's Paradise...so very sweet...
ReplyDeleteMyrna:
ReplyDeleteYou have a typo: "revealed fom the inside out,"
Should be "revealed from the inside out,"
Cute note to your husband
but in your last line I wanted to hear:
I strive to reciprocate YOUR LOVE
strive to reciprocate... we tend to echo love, don't we. I enjoyed this piece.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. Wonderful that small things can reveal great love...even better than extravagant things
ReplyDeleteI like how this starts with a memory of something that isn't the daily routine and then move to the everyday by comparison. Nice response to the prompt.
ReplyDeleteIt is great satisfaction to discover such wonderful memories! Many may not realize little things mean a lot!
