I sit quietly at sunset,
watching a little piece of the world,
a revolution, a radical spectacle,
light and darkness mingling, clashing,
apparent competition with no combat or winner to cheer.
It's merely the habit of Time, a pattern of repetition.
Now it is the sun who must allow submission
to the vastness of the sky's pure black
except in spaces where the moon and little stars
hold on tightly, brightly to their plight.
I realize Time must follow its own path,
as I must follow mine.
I sit quietly looking inside my mind
at the patterns of my own darkness
that have veiled my life.
at the patterns of my own darkness
that have veiled my life.
I watch increasing brightness as it travels through the night
getting me closer, closer to becoming,
to knowing that I Am made of starlight
... sitting and thinking is an art long gone... a nature setting so helps... lovely
ReplyDeleteWhew! Here is a window opening indeed! I like the image of a series of symbolic clashes between day and night, submitting in turn to each other. I love how the reflection on time's spiral reveals an increasing Light after the darknesses of an individual life. Very fine.
ReplyDeleteMyrna,
ReplyDeleteI love the gift of 'the sparkles of sunrise'...It is for me also very uplifting, as the day reveals itself...So much depends on seeing even a hint of the sun...Enlightening!!

Such a lovely journey, through this poem getting ever closer to "knowing I am made of starlight". Lovely.
ReplyDeleteSuch a peaceful and serene poem... I specially adore the lines:
ReplyDelete"I watch increasing brightness as it travels through the night
getting me closer, closer to becoming,
to knowing that I Am made of starlight
waiting for the sparkles of my sunrise."
Love the imagery... you have expressed so well... its wonderful :D
Much love,
xoxo
I agree with Wolfsrosebud - sitting and thinking has been replaced with busy and occupied. Your poem is a lovely meditation.
ReplyDeleteThe last line in the first verse "hold on tightly, brightly to their plight" was brilliant. However the sun would however be quite annoyed that it was business as usual regardless of earth spinning around and at times mindless of him!
ReplyDeleteLovely. I hope your path basks in sunshine (or star and moon light).
ReplyDeleteIt makes me feel peaceful.
ReplyDeleteYour words have already been touched by starlight. They sparkle so brightly... ♥
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely and fine piece of poetry...............really like the concluding lines, that we are made of starlight and will sparkle like sunshine:)
ReplyDelete"light and darkness mingling, clashing,' and the long wait for sunrise, & self realization....this is the story of life itself you've painted so beautifully...
ReplyDeleteRemembering that we as stardust can be hard but is so rewarding also.
ReplyDeleteI love those last lines - and your poem too this week is so very wise and philosophocal
ReplyDelete''I sit quietly looking inside my mind
ReplyDeleteat the patterns of my own darkness
that have veiled my life.''
I tend to do this more as I age, too, Myrna, and thankfully, although it can be quite dark in there, I am always greeted by sunshine on my way out.
Lovely!

Gorgeous poem!! The true happiness lies in the lap of nature,,,so true! Lovely...
ReplyDeletethere's such a peaceful feel in this - the deep peace of a traveler who learned enough about life and himself that he's content and embraces the moments as they are... says much about you myrna

ReplyDeleteNice toast to enlightenment! I love those sunbeams allowing us to see some darkness patterns... xx
