LOVERS EXIST

Source

Sometimes it feels like we're falling off this earth,
helpless to cling to it, unable to move it
to higher dimensions where gravity
is a nurturing glue that grows gardens
of distinctive beauties united in one globe
admiring their own interconnection.

We're all uncertain what to do.
But can this be true?
That loving gestures can soothe
the maladies of this world that may destroy it
too soon.

It's my consolation, at least
my hope, irrational though it be
that every time you or I are kind,
something healing reverberates in waves,
soothing in exponential form the sickness
flowing in the ethers now.

Sadly, when I think of this,
I consider that acts unkind can reverberate,
hate can grow exponentially too.

Such a difficult mandate has been given
by the sages throughout time,
about loving all.
I stand in hope, in my senseless way,
that there are some today so skilled in kindness,
that they have mastered the power
of loving our enemies.

  1. i was listening to a radio broadcast today and the guy was talking about loving and praying for our enemies...which is such a hard and radical concept at times...i think it can reverberate though...but you are right..evil does as well...

  2. Kind and unkind acts reverberate and can grow exponentially too ~ Which one will win and overcome the other ~ I admire those who can love and forgive their enemies ~

    Thanks for sharing Myrna ~

  3. One of the poets wrote about her last cry being forgiveness of her enemies, which I admire but am afraid I could not muster the character to do myself. I resonate with your words, Myrna, especially the being kind adding positives to the world but, sadly, all of this killing and hatred adds something too. One can only hope the Light will win. But it doesnt look good.

  4. I resonate with the underlying message here--that an act of kindness has a ripple effect--but I have to question over and over again, why is there so much anger in the world right now? I'm talking at a very basic level--like drivers who just lose it if you don't go fast enough for them. It cascades.

  5. I think we really DO need to use loving gestures as much as we can. Sometimes those loving gestures disarm hate!

  6. It takes so much energy to feed hatred - I just don't understand it.

  7. Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you. That's what Jesus commanded us to do. It's not easy, but I try each day, at least in my little world, to do so. Perhaps my feeble attempts will, as you say, reverberate and spread. Peace, Linda

  8. Love your enemy. Pray for those who persecute you. That's what Jesus commanded us to do, and I try, in my own feeble way, to do that more and more each day. Peace, Linda

  10. Such hope in the message of hope. To love your enemy is hard, but at least refraining from hate that eats you like an ulcer..

  11. Ah.. the beauty of the planet.. the earth viewed from space tells a partially torn story of a planet in disrepair.. and truly as in all vicious ways of life.. the only way to overcome dark is to become the light..and as the light grows brighter the planet does too.. and hopefully even enemies with guns and swords instead of loving words and eyes..:)

  12. Loving our enemies is what we have to try. Anything less cannot succeed.

  13. Sometimes I wonder about those who want to colonize Mars. If it is possible will we ultimately ruin the universe as well?

  14. "I consider that acts unkind can reverberate, hate can grow exponentially too.": That is so true. Your hope is my wish. Very well penned. :-)

  15. love, white light, forgiveness, gentleness into the teeth of rape, murder, racism, sexism, religious wars; the eternal struggle of good/evil, light/darkness, yin/yang where borders change, where balance & homeostasis fluctuate. You are both right & wrong, naive & wise--for yes, we must consider the restraint of a gentle warrior or blood will rule, & chains will bind.

  16. those last 3 lines are a powerful wrap-up to your piece. We do need to practice kindness until we DO become so skilled that we can truly love our enemies. Well written!

Yes and it's opposite but I love this...
"I stand in hope, in my senseless way,"
Senseless but imperative for transformation...your closing about the sages...hopeful indeed...I'll hope, too.

    Beautiful write, Myrna.

  18. Yes, I, too, "stand in hope" because LOVE is stronger than hate...and hearts can be transformed.

  19. This really resonated with me....the feeling of instability on this earth. I do believe that kindness brings out kindness. If that is the case, then perhaps we need to reconsider how we approach issues of hatred and violence.

  20. What a lovely message your poem brings. Kindness is so difficult at times... Yet that is the string binding us together. And there in, lies the hope.
