to bite, if only with her toothless jaws,
at a toy as if it was prey.
She walks happily, briskly,
down the street seductively swaying
her butt - a barren invitation.
Her little tail still vibrates
with vigor at your ticklish provocation.
Patiently she waits for you in adoration,
as you make her food,
or give a tender pat on the head,
or give a tender pat on the head,
or a treat before she goes to bed.
She thrives on all
those little loving things
you do.
those little loving things
you do.
It's no wonder
we joke
how in another life
I must have been a dog.
(For Poets United.)
Dogs really can be best friends that unashamedly give their love and trust.
ReplyDeletesmiles...well that says much about you, you know
ReplyDeletecause pups have a way of loving regardless...
sounds like yours still has a bit of spunk...ha
To know you were that content, that loved and cared for? Sounds like heaven for a dog and for old souls as well. To thrive means having more to give.
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile...grateful for any kindness shown...well let's face it, there is not much of it around !
ReplyDeleteLOL, well, I must have been one, too, Myrna. Hopefully it was because we enjoyed it, and were not recipients of abuse, like so many. I love the way you love your dog, she sounds like a big old sweetie. Love that you wrote about your dog, too!
ReplyDeleteAwww, this is so touching, Myrna. All dogs become 'old dogs' eventually....but they are not any less loved. Nor do they love any less. A poignant poem, Myrna.
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely in every way! (Big smiles.)
ReplyDeletethis is so sweet and touching Myrna..."She thrives on all / those little loving things / you do."...my fav. lines...

ReplyDeleteI am smiling dear with the ending ~ Love that adoration by the beloved dog ~
ReplyDeleteLove transcends over space and time! It will always bloom no matter what! Truly so Myrna!
