THE BONFIRE IN HIS EYES

CrystalGraphics.com

She was afraid.
Her heart burned.
No medicine could extinguish
the flame flapping inside her
scorching flesh, throbbing red
explosive tongues of words
like seething phlegm from her mouth
singeing the hearts of others.

She was a dragon to be
avoided even by those
supposed to love her.
She wouldn't allow it.
Love's for suckers.

But the new little neighbor child
didn't know not to play with fire.
He held her hand, showed his smile
without judgment or desire.

He burned an innocent fire
like hers of long ago,
before...

In an instant she knew
it was possible
to burn fire with fire.
She jumped into his eyes
where her fear, like smoke
dissipated into nothing.

  1. smiles...isnt it beautiful how hearts can change...and by far children have the most innocent hearts...and thus that power....

  2. OwOOOO!! How wonderful to show the power of innocence and guilessness through these two bonfires coming together. I would take that leap allowing healing to enter without wanting more than company. Bravo.
