SWIMMING

Hawaii

My life began with a good swim,
a strong inhalation, initiation
into its ocean of air
where I sometimes float
in the calmness of a puffy cloud.

But so often turbulence propels
me to streams of consciousness
uncharted, full of colorful
creatures, some beautiful,
others huge, threatening, frightful.

Then I must alternate my breathing,
use the backstroke, begin again,
practice using stronger strokes.
I flap around a lot.

Life will spill me out someday.
I hope I swim
gracefully by then.

  9. I remember learning to swim / easier than learning how to swim the currents of life. Nicely done Myrna
