GETTING CLOSER TO MATURITY

In my youth
I viewed my body as something to use,
a thing, for material pleasures
taken for granted, criticized for imperfections,
abused for the sake of work or fun,
depriving it of sleep, food
or giving it too much.

Can I repair the damage done
before natural consequence
makes its just demand?
I try.  I hope
it's never too late
for a little reparation.

"Your A1C levels are normal."
She gives me the news, no sugar coating,
as if it's been easy
for me to reverse a diabetic inclination
by eating what I must.

Proudly I smile, like a dog
patted, approved for good behavior.
I've been drinking
my healthy green smoothie:
kale, spinach, carrot, apple, celery,
mmmmmm, cinnamon and honey
some coconut oil.
Tastes okay. Not as good as chocolate shakes
I used to drink before
I was old enough to care.

Funny how much we change
as we grow up.

  1. Myrna, I agree that as time goes on a person changes. I am much more careful now about what foods I put in my mouth (and how much) than I was 20 years ago. I don't know if we can repair all of the damage, but I hope we can hold any further damage at bay. Thankfully I feel healthy, and I am eating healthier now than at many times in my life. Smiles.

  2. I like 'your' news, Myrna. I am glad your A1C levels are levels are good even though I am sorry it meant relinquishing 'chocolate shakes'. It is always a relief when the doctors announce such news.

  6. Nice and honest poem. I was thinking about something similar today. It is close to 3AM and haven't been able to fall asleep … and I was wondering if this is something I can handle as well as I used to… smiles...

  7. i have to say that yes it's possible and even scientifically proven to be the case at almost any age.. as their is a mighty force of human epigenetics and neuroplasticity.. that most all of us are gifted with from birth to adapt to some of the same mighty changes that our ancestors adapted to on a daily basis.. and even self healed themselves... with.. without our modern medicine...

The potential is their.. tapping it though... is truly hard work..

as epigenetic and neuroplasticity can either be negative from not doing enough..or the unhealthy things in life..

Or simply amazing when we find the right code of life.. to break our own epigenetic genetic code.. to unpack the true power.. yes the gift of genes.. just waiting to be used.. as adaptation .. and survival mechanism.. in real life.. for over a hundred thousand hears of human kind history!

The bad news.. is health statistics are based on the norm.. and the sometimes gloomy story of what happens when we age.. are based on folks who experience the negative impact of epigenetics and or neuroplasticity.. by what they do.. that creates the unhealthy sometimes depressing results...

My advice is to pay that no attention.. see no limits.. and do whatever you can that works for you in reasonable moderation..:)

At age 54.. and with 19 medically documented illnesses... all cured now after 7 years..

i know it worked for me.. as i feel healthier that when i was 16.. moreover than anything else.. now that my emotions are flowing freely.. and i have no fear.. and resulting stress..

That was always my mother's secret for her health.. even with substantial obesity and a sedentary life.. she let her emotions go.. in happy regulation.. and the result was a positive energy in life.. that no one could take away.. with that and truly taking care of one's self.. the potential is beyond most people's imagination.. i truly think...

i truly do in REAL LIFE NOW..:) 2!

SMILES AND MY HOPES AND WISHES.. are with your continued success in continUING GREATER HEALTH.. AND WELL BEING OVERALL! YOU ALREADY HAVE TAKEN THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP..!

JUST DOING! SOMETHING ABOUT IT!..:)yes..! one VALUED step at a time!
