A FUTURE POEM

cdup - Photobucket

There's a poem asking
permission to be born,
but we don't allow it
yet.

It's too full of absurdity.

Imagine, it speaks of war
in the past tense, as if
that will ever be.

Words collide into humorous thoughts
of humanity living in hostility,
the way we live now, and it laughs
at history when we, so primitive
actually hadn't learned to interbe.

Yes, it uses words unheard today
and makes fun of those indispensable
to us now like: borders, weapons, murder.

It says, "How silly those archaic times
of perceived separation, when people
didn't even know the all they encompassed."

Then, it paints a picture
of a world devoid of violent institutions
where everyone depends on everyone because
everyone IS everyone.
It ends in gratitude for the new world.

I know we'll let that poem have birth.
I hope it breathes its first breath soon
and I wish that I could write it.

  1. What a wonderful idea, Myrna. I wish you could write it too. War spoken of only in the past tense would be a dream come true.

  6. Another excellent poem, Myrna! I wish the future generations could learn about war only in history and not read about it on the news.

  7. excellent opening on this....holding back what is to be born...i wonder what would cause us to do that...what keeps us from peace...from accepting something greater than what we have...perhaps all that it would require of us...to change...

  11. Altruistic sentiments. However human nature is unlikely to change because it is intrinsic. The best we can hope for is less war and rid ourselves of violent fundamentalism.
