A man is planting a forest.
One seed after another, year after year
a lifeless, colorless wasteland turns green,
slowly because green takes time.
He works hard. But he's hardly rich.
(according to many.)
Yet, he produces soulful wealth,
abundance for the innocents.
Elephants, rhinos, insects galore
run, romp, crawl, fly, their appreciation
glowing from their wild existence.
A human(simply)being can enrich the world.
If we plant seeds in the wastelands
we see along our days,
verdant forests will grow there too.
(Submitted to Poets United where Susan has us writing about social good inspired by Gandhi.)
like johnny appleseed...smiles...we can plant the right seeds...trees being one of the things we can do to beautify our planet...but the seeds we plant each day, with each other....
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw a video about this man recently, and it is astonishing how he has transformed the landscape........I love your "how one human (simply) being".......yes, it is amazing how much we can do.
ReplyDeleteA great topic! If I had planted a tree a month, there would be 800 more trees ... I read about this man ... he enriches the earth and he has enriched this poem with persistence and abundance and glow.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said.
ReplyDeleteOh I love it. The simpleness of the action and the poem. Well done.
ReplyDeleteNot only is he rich, he is the very best kind of philanthropist as well.

Thanks for the introduction to the Majuli man. He is worthy of a poem. Instead we chop down old growth to make way for concrete development. The world should follow the example of the Majuli man.He is one of the true saints.
ReplyDeleteGreen takes time..i love that line..feels like the essence of internal and external growth..
ReplyDeleteThe planting of seeds can go big way, especially the seeds of good example, kindness and loving relationships of people and nature. ~ Important theme and the poem. xx

ReplyDeleteI know of him from the earlier video from Colossal blog ~ I love that he is greening the forest and nurturing the earth one seed at a time ~ Have a good week Myrna ~
ReplyDeleteGreening is the in thing! But not many are able do that as greed of big business tends to slow things down. Great word craft Myrna!
