WILL WORK FOR JOY

I have a tedious job.
Sometimes makes me run, jump backwards
into a childhood abyss of infinite questions,
unending energy, continuous joy,
and mischief, musn't forget mischief.

Other times, I fly in slow motion,
like a bubble, my mind bounces
with the breath of potential,
the scent of innocence,
the cooing sounds of life practicing
its voice, preparing to sing.

"Are you tired?" my daughter asks.
"Not at all," I lie.
I love my work.
The benefits are priceless.

(Submitted to Poets United.)

(Have been baby sitting my grandson Ian, 4 years old, and baby sister Mya, 2 months old.  Both my daughter and son-in-law are completing some courses and need some help from grandma.  So it's fun and games for me this week and periodically for the next few months.  Though I always tell myself I'm going to post as usual while I'm with the kids, it never happens.  I'm too tired by nighttime. That's why I haven't been around much. I'm home this week though, so I'll be reading all your wonderful posts.)

  2. It is such a joyful experience to interact with children, isn't it? I have been physically and/or mentally tired from my own experiences with grandchildren sometime.....but, all in all, I wouldn't trade that kind of 'tired' for the world. What beautiful children, Myrna; and your poem is a keeper.

  3. Your job certainly makes you tired... but I can feel your joy in taking care of the kids through your words. The small details are very well-penned. I loved the second stanza. :-)

  7. I like the balance between the two stanzas and how the last one rounds up the whole poem. I am sure these moments with your grandchildren are indeed priceless.

  10. Those wonderful moments of connections can never be brought back. One forgets the tiredness. May get on one's nerves during the day but it's all worth it! Nicely Myrna!

  12. Will Work For Joy! Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if everything considered "work" gave us such joy? You're such a good and loving person, Myrna. Be sure and get your rest. You need it! Big hugs....been thinking of you, but I've been a terrible e-mailer/writer lately!
