Painting by Leovi |
Every once in a while my life shrinks.
Its myopic view magnifies
hypnotically convincing me, (if only temporarily)
that what I see is real,
and all.
The minuscule piece becomes big.
I forget
other colors, textures, shadows, transparencies
that once were and could be again
when I stop the little living.
I tend to judge this as good or bad
when it simply is -
at times the ecstasy of the universe
in the bud of a flower,
or the pain of all suffering
in the instant I stump my toe.
Either way, I extract the juice of life
from these condensed times.
When life enlarges once again
I know
there is essence in the bigger picture.
And I'm glad.

Some of you may know that I've been moving. It's been quite an experience and I lived in the little for a while. But I'm ready to resume life in the large. So happy to blog again. I am well. Hope you are too.
Funny how one's perspective changes with the big picture ~ Still it is always nice to appreciate the small lovely things like a bud ~
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see you again Myrna ~ I hope you are adjusting to your new place and community ~ Take care, dear ~
Yes, I do think we need to recognize that some things just ARE...not good or bad...but just as they ARE. Well expresssed ideas in your poem.
ReplyDeleteThis works so well with the art. Sometimes the abstract startles us, as we can't arrive at a definitive understanding, but if we can manage to relax our mental constraints, it can open to a fresh, spacious world. Nicely written.
ReplyDeleteour universes expand and contract at times....different circumstances play into that...i like how you say either way you extract the juice of life...there is essence in the big and the little...and appreciating where ever we are...smiles.
ReplyDelete"the ecstasy of the universe
ReplyDeletein the bud of a flower'
how much better off would we all be if we could capture those moments
I wonder how that painting was done...
ReplyDelete.. I extract the juice of life from these condensed times... as we all must do... ah, you just gave an important lesson today... thank you Myrna... i am glad to know you have moved well & that i hope you find life much bigger than the last in this new environment of yours... smiles...
ReplyDeleteI really like how what you see when looking close. Sometimes you have to look close to appreciate the big picture ;-)
ReplyDeleteI extract the juice of life
ReplyDeletefrom these condensed times..this just boils it down to the essence of such times when someone has learned to face them open-minded...think we all know such times when things seem narrow and good to step out into the open again with the valuable lessons we learned in such places..so good to see you back writing again myrna...happy sunday...smiles
Wonderful capture of life's flow!

stop the little living <--- I really like this line. There is indeed much to appreciate in the minuscule details of existence...felt.
This is so true. I always have to ask myself how important will (whatever) be a week, month, year from now? Will I even remember it?
ReplyDeleteWise words..because it is what it is..but we all have those days when we lose sight and then when we regain it. :)
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to hear from you again and so glad you are well and back to blogging! Missed your wisdom :).
ReplyDeletehey we both took blogging breaks:)
ReplyDeletei'm a good/bad perceiver and the moment after i remind myself it's just how the world is and has always been. all in the bud of a flower and stub of a toe. i dig it:)
great to read you again and again:)
Myrna this is beautiful.. I am working on a meditation practice for The Healing Womb next week... this poem might fit in well with what I'll be teaching. May I have your permission to use it in a podcast (if it does work into the teaching as I suspect it might)? Attributing it to you of course! (If I use it I can even add a link to this post on the podcast page) send me a message and let me know:-)
ReplyDeleteYou have to love the view, big or little.....it's all good! Glad the moving is over - hopefully? - and you can lift your head above the cardboard boxes again:)
ReplyDeleteWhen it's a discovery one gets elated of the awareness. More so with hues of colors to feed and lead the way! Great take Myrna! Missed you Ma'am!

I love it! You capture the essence of accepting life as it comes, and dealing with it in a positive way. Well done!
ReplyDeleteYour words remind me of when I have a teardrop that suddenly changes my vision and intensifies it very briefly as moves over my contacts. It sounds weird but the experience is actually really cool. Love this poem. To me it spoke of a change in perspective.
