Somewhere in California |
"It is what it is. And I am what I am."
He chuckled through snorts. His belly
inflated, deflated intermittently,
his mind did too.
He thought of family. Some lost
their homes to nature's devastation,
others got lost looking for the yellow brick road.
The wolf ate them.
The rest are still fleeing from him,
sometimes hiding in shaky structures,
doing the best they can with what they've got.
"Too bad for them. I'm just glad I'm safe,
smart, still hungry."
He gurgled and snorted joyfully
devouring the slop,
plentiful in his sturdy house.
Then he slept and slept.
Outside, the masterful wolf licked his chops.
He smiled.

(Haven't been around much. Have been under the weather and dealing with renovations and moving. Hope the wolf doesn't get me before I can visit your blogs.)
Ha, I would say the moral of your poem is that no one is safe! There is ALWAYS something that CAN 'bring one's house down.' Good one.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a minute to wirk out who your character is - but I got there in the end. Your modern day pig isn't very nice, is he? I think he has friends in Wall Street and the London Stock Exchange
ReplyDeleteOh, so well done!
ReplyDeletesorry to hear you have been under the weather...and hope you are feeling better myrna...ah just when you get comfortable know the wolf is right there...and knows this too....ha...esp when your thoughts are of only your own safety...smiles.

ReplyDeleteSounds like the wolf won, except for that pig in the brick house... he's still waiting for maybe the next big storm. Clever write!
ReplyDeleteWell the wolf will blow and blow his house down ~

Ooo! an unfinished story. :)
ReplyDeleteI like this. Good job.
I hope the new house is sturdy, and the wolf can't blow it in!

after the wolf eats them, what does he do next?
ReplyDeleteCinderella Limerick
Piggy is not as safe as he thinks? Love the wolf's licking-chops smile. Wish I could help with all of the upheaval, Myrna. On the other side of all this, life will slow again. We'll wait. Take care.
ReplyDelete...danger is always present everywhere...that's an inherent truth we must embrace... def we can't escape from it... we can only conquer & make sure we're well prepared... smiles... keep safe & happy easter Myrna...
