Daisy and Leroy |
My Dear,
It's risky to love one person.
Better a spiritual, universal love.
Love everyone.
To love one may not be love at all.
It may be selfishness disguised,
a desire to take
attention, affection.
It absorbs, steals life's essence
intent on yearning for connection
of reciprocal intention,
creating redemption.
Naturally, it begins
with magnetic explosion
radiating invisible threads
that encircle the other, an embrace
attempting to fuse lovers in perfection.
But it's a process to learn
through time,
to be totally giving,
to let the other be,
to know that there's no we,
just one.
Love requires practice, repeat,
then again,
again.
Will I ever get it right?
So when I love you incomplete,
maybe try too hard,
or it's too much about me,
it's still my highest risk,
the best I can do
for now.

oh i like...def. love needs practice ..ha..lots of practice..and we fall and make mistakes and learn and get up again...but def. rewarding if we manage to take risks and love on...
ReplyDeletelove does require patience and a lot of excercise....and love is the highest risk as well as we open ourselves up to the pain that often comes with it....love the soft sentiment in that last stanza too...
ReplyDeleteWe rarely, if ever, get love right. All we can do is give the best that we have. There's so much to enjoy, so much to ponder in this delightful and deep poem - thanks for hitting publish and sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteBut it's a process to learn
ReplyDeletethrough time,
to be totally giving,
to let the other be,
to know that there's no we,
just one.
So very true! This is great, Myrna.
Very nice Myrna. Love certainly does require practice but is worth every effort. Thanks for sharing. My parents just moved to NM and we just visited for the first time - your state is beautiful in many ways.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts on love. I like this kind of poem that deals with a person's real thoughts on a subject. I don't think there is a 'perfect love' except for the perfect love of people both continuing to try. With the trying, the love can approach as close to perfect as is humanly possible, I think. I also agree with you that some love isn't really love but it selfishness. Sometimes this selfishness can be hidden for a while, but eventually it is exposed for what it is!
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be wise in the ways of real love. It comes through in your blog-friendship too, warming me and making me grateful, M-
ReplyDeleteNicely poetized

"So when I love you incomplete,
ReplyDeletemaybe try too hard,
or it's too much about me,"
so much, so much truth here...
I love the honest voice dear ~ I think we are always learning everyday, balancing the give and take ~ I am glad you pushed the publish button ~ Have a lovely day/night ~
ReplyDeleteVery heartfelt and well said, Myrna. So happy you shared it. I LOVE the photo of Daisy and Leroy.........dogs always get loving right.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, a practice that we never get quite perfect.... But better to keep trying again and again.... We learn, and live much in the process
ReplyDeleteOh, may we honor the best gifts we give!
ReplyDeleteVery risky indeed.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right we are own higher risk. Each time we fall in love we are risk of all. http://gatelesspassage.com/2013/02/02/reflections/
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of narrating something to Leroy and Daisy and in the process sending a message to all of us. True that. When we are full of love let's give it all to everyone.
ReplyDeleteJoy always,
Susan
Oh dearest Myrna...so many of us can relate to this poem....I've opted for that universal love myself...am I wrong?...it's easier that's for sure...but who knows what the ...maybe I'll try again one day...maybe....
ReplyDeleteOh, this was lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love how insightful!
Great photo :D
This is beautiful. So true. I can relate to this in many ways. So much easier to love in the abstract and at a distance.
ReplyDeleteLove will always be beautiful if its from you (smile). And as you know, it can not be taught for we knew and felt love from infancy. Great write my friend.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this post. It's thoughr provoking and heartfelt. For me, one of the things that I discovered as a universal truth, though it was taught to me in my childhood is that one cannot not truly love another until one has self love. I am often far more accepting of others than I am of myself.
