Nimbus clouds hover, teasing, as she waits
for drenching, cleansing torrents
to drown pain.
Tears are too minute
to dilute grand disillusions,
to dissolve disappointments,
to disintegrate dreams
that don’t realize
life makes no promises.
It just flows
even over mountains of lost hope.
And it decides if it will rain,
or if there’ll be drought.
So much is out of her control.
But she knows life
won’t allow the clouds to menace forever.
Eventually, they’ll release the rain,
wash a path for the sun.
no...life will not allow it forever...in a rather terrible season right now...all the death....kids in wrecks and such, but i found a lot of peace this weekend...even with the additional death last night...there is always another side you know....we just have to travel on until we come to it...
ReplyDeleteThis poem touched me deeply. I felt strongly the faith at the core of it and the final line is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the old quote: 'And, this too, shall pass away.'
ReplyDeleteThere is a deep spirituality in this. A connection with Mother Nature and an understanding that she will do as she is meant to do and we just need to accept it. Life, is a beautiful thing.
Loved your mountain view.
Love the hope and faith in the last 4 lines ~
ReplyDeleteI think pretty much of life is out of our control, but we can make the best of what we have ~
Lovely share ~
Great imagery and metaphor. I agree with Bren above. :)
ReplyDeleteI so resonate with this poem - "over mountains of lost hope", and take heart with its ending: "Eventually they'll release the rain, wash a path for the sun." Beautiful. True in nature, as in life.
ReplyDeleteThis poem really resonates with me, Myrna. Life does indeed make no promises, and some of the things life hands us may indeed bring us tears of sorrow; but eventually the rain (either real rain or the tears) will wash a way to the sun. If we wait, hope and happiness will always find us!
ReplyDeleteExplore the heights and depths! well done

No promises, just what will be... We have a lot to learn from nature.
It is so hard to not try and control those events in our life that make us angry or sad, but your analogy goes along way to showing how we are never in control. Loved this.
ReplyDeleteI especially love the opening line with the clouds that tease as she waits...sets the tone for the entire poem.

I really wanted to quote the entire poem. It's compelling that the narrator needs bigger tears and so invites in the rain and with it, nature's POV about cycles. AS the analogy opens the narrator is more accepting but not less sad. Each thing in its turn. And look at the history of time--much has evolved/changed regardless of predictions and possibilities.
Life will not allow it forever...sometimes we must live in the storm to be able to see a rainbow.
ReplyDeleteDear Myrna: This too shall pass and the sun will appear again to wipe out the traces of the gloomy rain.
ReplyDeleteJoy always,
Susan
Ahh, yes... eventually there will be sun!
ReplyDeleteMyrna-I love how you ended it allowing us to envision our own glorious rainbow...beautiful~
ReplyDeletelove the hope and this and also the realistic look at life...it's not fair, makes no promises, and can be rain one day and sunshine the next..but def. the clouds won't stay forever...love this myrna
