Is there life before death?
Who am I?
standing in the midst of this
thought –traffic?
This is before and beyond
thinking and imagining.
What lies behind us, what lies
before us are tiny matters.
You cannot see
outside what you
fail to see inside.
What lies within us?
That is the question.
(I'm submitting this to Dverse Poets where Samuel Peralta has challenged us to write a Cento. A Cento is a poem composed of verses or passages from other poets. I used the words of Anthony De Mello (though not a poet, I really like his work), Jelalludin Rumi, and Walt Whitman.
I am also submitting this to Friday Flash 55.)

ReplyDeleteTruth is in the bone when lies dance
ReplyDeleteMyrna, your words go beautifully together. One would not guess it is a cento. And yes, the question IS....what lies within us!

ReplyDeleteI am fond of the existential questions and you have woven some lovely ones here in your beautifully penned cento ... if I didn't know it was a cento, there is no way I would have guessed ... nice work.
