HORTENSE

Upon a branch in my imagination
she mused
about thoughts poetic.
Unlike any muse since fantasy's inception,
Hortense, no job or home, non-angelic
Life eccentric, she's actually pathetic.

Desperately she needs employment.
But her references are unknown.
She admits she's not that competent.
Just says she's new, not fully grown
hasn't been long on her own.

Reluctantly, she confessed
she inhaled words since she was born.
By her resume I'm hardly impressed.
She hardly knows the norm
of rhyme, or other classic form.

To the rules, little attention she paid
Now she begs to be hired
With no talent displayed.
But she says no compensation is required
if she can make me feel inspired.

Whether wise or fool, I must confess
I used my heart and not my head
Decision made under no duress
Hortense is now hired.

  2. Never underestimate the power of an inspired will; in many instances such an attitude can learn what is lacking very quickly. Great poem.

  6. Didn't know the meaning of 'hortense.' I had to look up! But you have used it as a name. Is it? Hortense will seek new paths for herself. Let her grow and find.

    Joy always,
    Susan

  13. This is great, my muse could use a little passion and incentive like Hortense.

  14. I'd try and keep Hortense around too since she requires no compensation and may be she will inspire you. Imaginery friends have been known to do that.

Myrna my dear friend, if I had known I'd be gone this long, I would have posted you a note. Thank you so much for noticing I was gone. I'm back but won't be posting much until the summer over. I see you're still sharing your gift. I'm glad I didn't miss this one. I loved it. The whimsey, the fantasy and the hope of it. Blogger's been down otherwise I would have been here the moment I saw your post. Smiles and a big hug of Thanks - Haupi
