KINDNESS

I was informed by The Daily Good that today is World Kindness Day. I don't think we should restrict kindness to a special day commemorating this high quality of the human spirit. But I must confess that devoting a day to it may actually do some good and serve as a reminder - for me at least. I actually caved in to its influence and made oatmeal for mother-in-law this morning though the rest of us were eating something else. So, perhaps my kindness halo shines a little brighter today.

In his new book, The Dalai Lama said, "I often say jokingly that a truly selfish person must be altruistic." I think he said that because kindness actually produces those good chemicals in the body that are a boost to health and happiness. So, this made me wonder selfishly - how can I be kind to my cyber friends today?

I came up with many wishes:

Wish that I were so grand
as to grant your every command
Wish that I were all knowing
to anticipate your needs for growing
Wish I could give you joy to enjoy
this world, a carnival, a toy.

Some recommendations:

First and foremost - be kind to yourself.

Smile.

And some quotes:

"A smile is the light in the window of your face that tells someone you're at home"

Author Unknown

"It takes a lot of work from the face to let out a smile, but just think what good smiling can bring to the most important muscle of the body...the heart."
Author Unknown

"If you don't start the day with a smile, it's not too late to start practicing for tomorrow."
Author Unknown

Have a wonderful day my friends.

What beautiful thoughts and wisdom, dear Myrna. Sometimes it is so very difficult to take that effort and smile. It just does not happen. I have the practice of standing in front of the mirror and smiling at myself when I feel a bit under the weather. It works. And I am glad that it works.

Big hugs and much love, dear Myrna.

    Joy and smiles,
    Susan

  11. I love it that you bring up the importance of smiling. Smiling is really under-rated and one of the simplest things we can do to be kind to each other. Sometimes I just smile at a stranger and when they smile back and we connect for a few moments it's a wonderful high!

  12. I'm sort of boggled...the world needs to be reminded to be kind?...oh, what am I talking about, all I need to do to be reminded that we live in an unkind world is to get in my car and drive.
This was great. Glad I read it. And now, I will be doubly sure to pay attention to those around me and be kind.
You are kind for putting this out there.

  13. My kids' third grade teacher had a sign on the blackboard at the front of the classroom that read simply, "invest in kindness". I've always remembered it.
