THURSDAYS FOR MY TREASURES - FRIENDSHIP

As you may know, I am devoting Thursdays to
writing about the treasures in my life. I invite you to join me in writing a blog, or just commenting here about someone, someplace, something that you consider a treasure. Thanks so much.

~

There's a saying about one being lucky to have at least one true friend in a lifetime. I have exceeded my share. Recently, I heard another saying about how God gave us friends to make up for having given us family. Amen to that!

Each friend is a treasure, a jewel that shines uniquely in our lives leaving hints of the oneness that love is. Maybe we are all diamonds in the rough and friends serve to polish the different facets of our being. To laugh, to cry, silent companionship, understanding, a mirror that reflects my soul back to me - every friend seems to have a specialty. Without friends my life would lack depth and most of all fun.

I am always amazed at how energized I feel after friends come over, share a meal and we partake in the art of conversation. I'm always amazed too at the frequency of these get-togethers at my house. I'm not a great cook, and my house is not extravagantly luxurious. Yet, friends love to stop by. I am so grateful and so honored.

Newborns, if not touched and nurtured, die. Friendship is like that. We must give it attention, or it will inevitably wither. So, today, lets make a little time to nurture a friendship, to lift someone's spirit.

And you my friend, you too come into my house and delve into my spirit. Even if we only share a few moments, I treasure your attention.

I love Kahlil Gibran and lacking the skill to write something as meaningful, I respectfully quote him for you:

"This is life.

Portrayed on the stage for ages;

Recorded earthily for centuries;

Lived in strangeness for years;

Sung as a hymn for days;

Exalted for but an hour, but the

Hour is treasured by Eternity as a jewel."

  5. What an incredibly beautiful post, and such a great reminder to cherish the blessing of friendship, and for us not to just put it on the shelf and admire it, but to make it a part of our life, and care for the friendships that are dear to us.
    I needed to read this today. Thank you!
